I think this is the 1st book to use Social Mobility to justify massive changes that happened to the Egyptians

TOO COMPLEX Book totally not for non specialists I burned my book

  3. Rana Rana says:

I'm grateful to time to reach the edition of such an analytical bookI think Dr Galal Amin managed to dig and explore the hidden agglomerated factors that made our society stray and lose its cohesion Dr Amin made a comparison of the changes that our society went through to the Economic cycle with its famous stages The society goes trough patterns I liked that Dr Amin tried to evade generalization when he talked about his family as a model of a small part of the Egyptian societyI intend to read the second part of the book

  4. Norhan Mokhtar Norhan Mokhtar says:

Simply it is one of the most important books I have ever read Galal Amin's book ماذا حدث للمصريين describes the change that happened to the Egyptian Society over the period between 1945 1995 What gives credibility to the book is that the author based his assumptions on his personal experience concurrent with theories from Sociology and Economics The author got you engaged with the book by telling stories from his daily life about his father motherand children so you can see the difference between these four generations and at some points you will feel that Dr Amin is talking about your own life It is the kind of book that makes you feel sad while reading the last page because you will realize that you have finished it It is the right mixture of facts theories and human experience sweetened with Dr Galal Amin's sense of humor

  5. Nouran Nouran says:

This is my second time reading itTo this very day I have failed to find any other comprehensive guide to the change that occurred in the Egyptian society in the 1970s 1980s What is particularly special about Dr Jalal Amin's book is the way he explains all the changes that happened in the society through a holistic comprehensive approach while using a simplified language in the form of a mix between formal and autobiographical ish styles of writingThe only downside is the obvious bias towards Nasser in many aspects and a slight bias against Islamist groupsOverall an incredibly important and recommended reading

  6. Rania Rania says:

An insightful and in depth sociological study of the transformation of the Egyptian society over half a century almost three generations in the different paths of life

  7. Samar Dahmash Jarrah Samar Dahmash Jarrah says:

It can be a bit boring if you are not interested in history A detailed account of napoleon’s adventure in Egypt Most fascinating part is how Napoleon tried to speak as if he as a French man was closest to Muslims and islam That French people didn’t believe in the trinity thus close to Muslims who worship just ONE GODFrench made rich Egyptians literally pay for this adventure through taxesThe French had very little financial support for this adventure from the home countryThe French decided after the Copts limited cooperation that the idea of having a country for Jews in Palestine was a great one to help French colonial aspirations in greater Syria Many decades before the Jews dreamt of this schemeFrench men had many affairs with Egyptian women and concubines in the harems And finally Napoleon just abandoned the expedition once he couldn’t conuer Akka

  8. Waly Abdellatif Waly Abdellatif says:

I think this is a great book It explained accurately the sociological changes that took places in the Egyptian society from the 50s and sometimes back to the 20s all the way to the 90s But importantly it explains those changes in light of the political and economical changes in Egypt which made a lot of sense to me and gave the argument a lot of credibilityIt also highlights the root cause of the deterioration of ethics and behaviors of the Egyptian society This is also explained in light of the changes that took place to the social classes in Egypt

  9. Marwa Marwa says:

I like the book v much except for some difficult economic words

  10. Dina Dina says:
